The foundation of the new terminal building of Malatya Airport will be laid on February 6 with the participation of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu.
MALATYA (İGFA) – The new terminal building of Malatya Airport was tendered and The winning contractor firm started work on building sites. The problem experienced in air transportation due to the lack of passenger capacity of the existing terminal building will end with the opening of the new terminal building. In this way, the number of domestic and foreign visitors to the city will increase and tourism and commercial activities will be more active.
The new terminal building of Malatya Airport will be more active. The apron and ground services will be built on a total area of 50 thousand square meters and will cost approximately 246 million liras.
AIRCRAFT TRAFFIC INCREASED 392 PERCENT
AK Party Central Decision Management Board Member and Malatya Deputy Öznur Çalık, together with Malatya Airport Manager Serdar Akyüz, made observations at the construction site. Çalık noted that the plane traffic in the city, which was 1096 in 2003, increased by 392 percent to 5,389 in 2019, and the number of passengers, which was 89 thousand, approached 750 thousand.
2.5 MILLION PASSENGER CAPACITY
Pointing out that the construction of a new terminal building with a capacity of 2.5 million passengers per year has started to solve the problem of insufficient passenger capacity in the terminal building of Malatya Airport, Çalık said, “The terminal building has a closed area of 27 thousand square meters and a parking lot for 500 cars. Thanks to Malatya Airport, the tourism and trade activities of the region will increase even more. It is an investment of 246 million lira with additional buildings and connection roads. The groundbreaking ceremony of this investment will be held on February 6, with the participation of the Minister of Transport and Infrastructure, Adil Karaismailoğlu, and it will be put into service on February 16, 2023 ”.
