Malatya Journalists Association President Vahap Güner also referred to an article written by Attorney Hayrettin Abacı in 1960, saying, A university that will meet the needs of Malatya and the region should be established in Malatya. It leads the way to establish a university for 7 years. He looks that these studies do not work. He founded an association in 1967; Malatya university establishment and survival association. He struggled with this association for 7 years, and with the death of the late İsmet Pasha in 1974, he laid the foundations for the establishment of Malatya İnönü University. As a result of the struggle of our journalist masters at that time, Malatya İnönü University was born.

Güner spoke as follows, “We, as the Malatya Journalists Association We wanted the second university to be established in Malatya. We requested that the name of this university be Turgut Özal University. The name Turgut Özal was immediately accepted by the people of Malatya in every part of the society. We would like to express that we are happier after seeing the level that Turgut Özal University has reached today. As the press of Malatya, it is our greatest wish that our university will rise further and come to its worthy place. ”
