Mardin gastronomy on the way to UNESCO

Mardin UNESCO Creative Cities Network was held Online Consultation Meeting

Mardin (IGF A) – Mardin Metropolitan Municipality with the UNESCO National Commission of Turkey the “UNESCO Creative Cities Network Online Consultation Meeting” with gastronomic theme was carried out.

Öcal Oğuz, Head of Culture, Tourism and Social Affairs Department Abdurrahman Şahin, Maturation Institute Director Metin Değer, Provincial Culture and Tourism Director Sabahattin Genç, Artuklu University Gastronomy and Culinary Arts Department Head Dr. Sema Gürbüz, Head of Tourism Management Department Gülseren Özaltaş Serçek, Public Education Director Ufuk Çete, Mardin Tourism and Hotel Management Association President Özgür Güngör, Dicle Development Agency Emine Tuğba Alpaslan attended.

UNESCO National Commission of Turkey Ihsan Deputy Assistant Secretary General of the UNESCO Creative Cities Tolga Ranger’s meeting began with the presentation made by Turkey on the Network of UNESCO National Commission Chairman Prof. Dr. It continued with the speech of M. Öcal Oğuz.

Head of Culture, Tourism and Social Affairs Department Abdurrahman Şahin stated that Mardin’s ancient culinary culture from the past is not where it deserves, saying, “Our city has to apply to the UNESCO Creative Cities Network with the theme of gastronomy to move forward in the national and international arena. We will start the process with the unity of stakeholders and the support of Governor Mahmut Demirtaş. “This process is a big step for our city, and especially our cuisine, to reach its deserved place in the national and international arena.”

The meeting ended with the consultation of the participants to the UNESCO creative cities network, the way to be followed, Mardin’s culinary culture, local gastronomy studies, general evaluations and planned projects.
