Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu made examinations at the Kenter Theater in Şişli, which was transferred to the City Theaters with the decision of the IMM Assembly on 15 October 2020.
ISTANBUL (IGFA) – The Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Council unanimously decided in its session on October 15, 2020 that the Kenter Theater in Şişli will continue its activities within the body of the City Theaters. İmamoğlu, together with IMM Spokesperson Murat Ongun and Deputy Secretary General Şengül Altan Arslan, made examinations at the Kenter Theater where the reconstruction works will begin. During the study tour, Elvan Kenter, daughter of the late Müşfik Kenter, another doyen of Turkish theater, and Mehmet Birkiye, Head of the Theater Department of Istanbul Aydın University, who has served as an actress and director for the Kenter Theater for years, were also present. The theater belongs to the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality, ”said Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu, and said that the names of Yıldız-Müşfik Kenter brothers, who are the veteran artists of the Turkish Theater, will be kept alive. Imamoglu said, “This is of course the wealth of Istanbul. I think that this wealth will be very valuable and permanent under the roof of IMM. In this sense, our work is just starting ”. The daughter of Müşfik Kenter, the nephew of Yıldız Kenter, Elvan Kenter, told her feelings with her tears, “I am very excited right now, I cannot say the words. We are also very excited, because the name of the theater, my aunt, my father continues in this way. I am very happy. ”
